Brainstorming template

Definition: What is the purpose of brainstorming?

Brainstorming is a method for generating a wide variety of new ideas and points of view on a given subject, in order to facilitate decision-making or problem-solving by looking at them from a new angle. A brainstorming session can be carried out individually or in a group.

Steps to take: How do I brainstorm?

  1. Assemble a team of competent people who can contribute their experience and skills to finding the solution to a problem or making the decision.
  2. Choose a facilitator who is familiar with brainstorming tools and techniques. As a first step, the facilitator should clarify the objective and topic of the session to those present at the brainstorming session, and explain the problem the team needs to solve.
  3. Brainstorm ideas or suggestions within a given time limit. Team members can do this individually or in groups. Use brainstorming templates or charts to capture and develop the ideas generated during this production phase.
  4. Organize and categorize the ideas generated on the medium used (e.g. a kanban board or a shared document).
  5. Examine and discuss each idea with the team, then select the best options.
  6. Create an action plan for implementing the agreed and prioritized ideas and changes, and decide on a timetable. Once the plan is deployed, monitor and measure results.

Use cases

Ideas and creativity are essential for advancing, developing and growing your business, but also for improving your working methods and being more productive on a project. Brainstorming is undoubtedly one of the best ways to generate ideas.

Model content

With the Brainstorming model, all your collaborators and partners can add, modify and delete ideas, and contribute as much information as possible. You can list the issues in a task list, and add the associated answers. This way, everyone can understand how each brainstorming session unfolds, without losing any information.

How to use the Wimi brainstorming model?

The default brainstorming method of the Wimi project management tool is based on 3 lists. To use this tool, we recommend that you bring participants together in a physical or virtual office (via Wimi AirTime).

Session objective and schedule

In this list, you define the objective and topic of the brainstorming session, as well as the workshops on which participants will brainstorm.

  • Sample objective: brainstorm ideas and solutions to increase conversions on the sales site.
  • Example: 10min of individual reflection, 5min of voting, 15min of discussion between participants.
  • Sample workshops: Workshop 1 – blog and Workshop 2 – website.

Workshop 1 and Workshop 2

In each workshop, teams create cards during the brainstorming phase.

Once the brainstorming phase is over, teams can use the labels to vote for the best ideas.

Once the votes have been cast, you can transfer the selected ideas to a workspace dedicated to the project action plan.
